This is the "Roadside Rest" Service Station by MARX from the Thirties. It is a pressed metal lithograph toy that represents a service station with gas pumps and a manual car lift with an additional snack bar. The employees working at it look like the comedy team of Laurel and Hardy, who were popular at the time. When new, I'm told, that there were flash light bulbs that screwed into the tops of the gas pumps that said "GAS" and would light up when a "D" battery was put in the "oil tank" out back. Those particular bulbs are still available. Also there is an additional bulb socket in the middle of the manual lift. Raise the lift, and the bulb would light there also, to see underneath a car. The wiring still looks to be intact underneath, which is always missing or broke when you find these. The majority of the toy is here for you to enjoy while you collect the additional parts.
