Vintage Marx Tin Litho Carry-All Fort Apache Play Set withFigures & Accessories

A vintage circa 1960s Fort Apache western playset by Louis Marx company complete with action figures. These sets were very popular in the 1950s and 1960s, and Marx was a leader in this industry. The suitcase style case opens to reveal a western fort setting complete with palisades outer walls. The overall condition of the set is very good. It does show some age-appropriate wear and some scratches to the edge surface of the case, but the metal is straight overall and the hinges are very good. There is some minor separation at the edges of the case, but this is expected over time with opening and closing the case. There are no dents or "sinks" in the metal. The handle is very strong, shows no sign of weakness, and the latch keeping the two parts together is strong and latches positive.

The color graphics are very robust with most of the blemishes along the edges where one would expect to find them. The backside of the case is not quite as good as the front side as it was apparently stored on its side and not on the binding edge. This set has been played with, but does not appear to be abused. I have no idea how many and what type of figures and pieces originally came with the set, but here is an inventory. Check the photos for details.

27 soldier and Indian action figures. I did give some thought to parting out this set, but it seemed a shame to break it up given its vintage. Unfortunately, some of these pieces show signs of pet chews. There are some small pieces broken off the blockhouses. This set was acquired from the collection of a retiring antiques dealer.
