BATTLE OF THE BLUE & GRAY. For your consideration I'm offering this great old vintage Civil War playset from the Marx Toy Co.This comes with the box. The box does have a tear along the seam on the edge of the lid. Other than that the colors are vibrant and the box shows only minor normal wear. I'm uncertain as to the completeness of the set. The box is vague as too how many pieces came with the set but I do know that the litho house is missing except for it's bracing bar and front porch columns. There is also a small lawn jockey and eagle that I'm not certain where they went. There are 4 horses included: one gray (laying on side), one brown and two white hooked to a wagon. There are 2 pieces of brown fence, along with 1 brown partial wall and 1 rock mound type piece. The 2 litho metal flags are in great shape but have snapped off their bases. There are 3 cannons, two stationary and one with wheels that's hooked to the back of the wagon with a string. There are also what look to be some accessories for the cannons; two rods and a clip. There are 4 tan tents and accessories: one large and 3 small. I cot, 2 log type stands, barrel on stand, crate, stool, and 2 buckets. There are 32 blue soldiers in various positions some with weapons along with 1 blue stretcher.
There are 4 cream color figures: President Lincoln, General Grant, General Lee, and Jefferson Davis. There appear to be two different shades of gray of the other soldiers. Overall there are 31 gray in various positions, some with weapons.
One is carrying a stretcher. There is 1 gray accessory that looks like a rolled blanket? Also in the gray are 1 box with guns and 1 curved sand bag type wall along with 2 partial wagon wheels and 2 circular pieces that I'm not sure what their purpose is. There is also 1 trading card that says it is a Civil War "checklist of cards". This has been written on and is wrinkled but I'm pretty sure it's not original to this set but was found with it so I'll leave it there.
Overall I'm not sure which pieces are original and which are not to this particular set. I'm sure a collector will know for sure. Some of the soldiers look like they are dusty and could be washed, one of the blue soldiers has had his flag stick broken, and one small tent has a red x written on the top. Other than the minor normal wear this looks to be in good condition. It appears that the weapons the soldiers are holding are in tact. This will make a fabulous addition to any Union or Confederate Civil War, or vintage Marx Toys collection. Thanks for taking a look -Please feel free to ask any questions!
