Vintage 1952 Marx Pet Shop playset 100% original, never used, near mint in box

We have what Marx Playset collectors tell us is the very first of the Playsets produced by the Louis Marx Toy Co, intended for both boys and girls. There are 2 versions, number 09 and 10.

The difference is human figures. Set numbers ending in 10 have human figures, the 09 sets don't.

This is a set number ending in 10, and has the full set of human figures. This playset has never been assembled or played with.

Until we took it all out to photograph the contents, these pieces had never been out of the box, or out of the small brown paper bags containing the various assortment pieces inside, like the fencing, furniture, dogs, & monkeys. Many of the "Complete" Marx playsets offered for sale may have all the pieces inside the box, but most don't have all the cardboard separators inside to protect the pieces, or the paper bags for the smaller items.

THIS PLAYSET HAS EVERYTHING it was supposed to have when assembled by Marx employees in Moundsville, W. Probably the worst part of this set is some of the metal building panels have minor warpage from the stamping process, and have not been straightened before assembly, a common situation for the larger flat panels in early Marx sets.

Note the masking tape to hold the box closed. It was applied at the Marx Factory and should be there [some toy stores ordered their playsets with the tape, some without]. Currently there is only one other Marx Pet Shop #10 set still in the original box, unused. We do our best to accurately describe the items we offer. We try to check for messages daily.
