Rare & Huge 1959 Marx Ben Hur #4701 Series 5000 Playset with Instructions & Box

This playset is on such a scale that you can imagine yourself in the middle of the gladiator battle! Look at the pictures of the display and you can only imagine the hours of fun this created for a young one and his friends! Even adults would be jealous!

This is the larger #4701 Series 5000 set that was made in 1959 and that came with 6 sets of figures (96 total), plus the three character figures, 8 chariots, grandstand, and many accessories. Features the large lot of figure sets: 8 sets of 16 figures of Roman citizens and Gladiators (Comes with 95 of the 96 figures, missing 1 white figure with spear) Complete with all smaller accessories including: - lounge chair - curved arm chair - 2 broken wheels for decor - 3 different busts on columns - urn - empty basket - basket with fruit - 2 kettles on 3 legs - donkey - fountain with lion's head - wooden-like hand push cart -3 tables, 3 hassock stools, tied bundles, jewel chests, pillows, hookahs, oil lamps, incense burners, and fire pots. 3 tents with awnings (some red tips for roof ornamentation are still on the sprues, 1 red tip missing) - 3 catapults, with 3 sets of 24 rocks on sprue (1 sprue has all rocks on it, the other two have 1 loose and 3 loose rocks from the sprues as shown) - 8 chariots with outer trim ornamentation that wraps around the carriage (3 of these outer trim ornmamentation are split in half and need to be repaired), 1 chariot hitch is broken where the horse harness meets the chariot. 1 neck harness is broken in half around the 1 horses neck that is in the chariot as shown.

There are the 95 of the original 96 figures and the 3 character figures in purple (emperor, empress, and Ben Hur). It has 32 horses for the 8 chariots (4 sets in running pose and 4 sets in prancing pose), 2 lions, fruit stand (1 peg broken where awning connects to roof), slave market, and large coliseum stands with 10 connectors, 14 colorful banner flags. The 2 side stands have spiked opening gates to house the wild animals! This is a great Marx playset in fantastic original condition!

It comes with all of the items shown and appears to be complete except a couple of minor issues as mentioned above. This set even comes with the original Marx bags that the accessories came in!

There are 5 Figures bags, 8 blue Accessory bags, 1 grey bag, and 9 plain bags. It appears to have been hardly played with as most of the plastic catapult rocks and tent spires are still attached to the sprues! It even has the original instructions! This is a great set that is hard to find in such good condition! All contained in the original box which is also in great solid shape. CONDITION: This playset is completely original and appears to only be missing 1 white figure with spear and 1 red tent spire.

The pieces are all in excellent, undamaged condition except for the 3 split chariot ornamentation, 1 broken neck harness for attaching horse, 1 broken chariot where hitch connects, 1 broken yellow side strap harness seperating the horses, 1 broken peg tip in white tent awning (tip still in awning), and 1 broken peg tip in post holding up the fruit market awning - top peg is broken off but still in market wall. The original box is quite solid with original insert, but does have some light edge wear.
