Original 1960's Marx Rock'em Sock'em Robots Complete In Box with Liners

Dating back perhaps to the first year of issue this is a complete Marx Rockem Sockem Robots set in the original box. Includes Boxing Ring with complete (2) unbroken rope set, all 4 corner posts in sound condition (not uncommon to be missing at least 1 or having one broken), both robots with original stickers applied to back, also very hard to find carboard insert of crowd watching the fight which is also in clean sound condition, original filled in score card (paper) and instruction sheet. The set for being as old as it is, is in very nice condition. The original box is in really nice shape, very sturdy and complete with all flaps. Colors are bright and bold.

There are two tears along the lower front edge at the left and right side of the opening a little over an inch in length. The one on the right is torn on the front and back edge while the one on left edge seems to be mostly the front edge and maybe a little on the back edge. This is one spot on the Rockem Sockem box that I'd say is usually torn on most sets. The problem was if the set was picked up by the lower front edge without supporting the back of the box it was not strong enough at those two points to withstand the stress and they'd tear. These don't look bad at all and with a little white glue could easily be repaired.

I think it would be hard to find a much nicer example than this one. It's not uncommon to have missing or broken posts as well as the ropes but as mentioned these are all there and in great shape. The only thing to really mention concerning the toy are 2 short and 1 long trivial melt marks on the floor of the boxing ring caused by the ropes being in contact with the floor probably for decades.

There was no damage to the ropes. You scarcely notice the marks and it does not affect its use for display or operation.

I tried taking pictures but they just don't show up that well. This is a common problem with old Marx Toys especially with Rockem Sockem Robots and in particular the Johnny West series of toys. As a suggestion I would not use the original ropes unless there is scarcely any tension on them when trying to put them on. I have not tried to put them on but if they are tight you may end up breaking them.

You can probably find a package of white twine, cut off an appropriate size and find an appropriate size electrical coupler to make a loop. Doing this will preserve the original ropes which are probably very difficult to find original replacements. Any typical hardware store should have what you need. When I bought this set the liners that go over the push buttons to operate the robots were not in proper place and I can see why. It's quite difficult to figure out how they go in but I managed to get them in place but I'm not certain I have them right but it must be close.
