MARX BATTLE OF THE BLUE & GRAY. NUMBER 4760 - SERIES 2000. This exciting lot contains the 1959 Marx Battle of the Blue & Gray Play Set. This set is numbered 4760, Series 2000. This set is in Very Good condition and is in an Original vintage box.

This set should be complete EXCEPT for the instructions and the small silver soft plastic accessories. Included in this early Civil War play set are: 48 - 1st series Confederates, 02 - Confederate riders, 01 - Confederate seated calling, 01 - Confederate rider w/whip, 48 - 1st series Union, 02 - Union riders, 01 - firing silver caisson cannon, 01 - silver caisson w/seat (one buffer holding horse in caisson is missing along with one handle on caisson seat), 04 - cavalry horses in correct colors (1 each in creme, tan, brown, and black), 02 - creme harness horses for caisson, 01 - dead horse in brown, 01 - black 12 lb.

HP shell-firing cannon w/spring, 01 - Grey Large Campaign Tent, 03 - Grey Pup Tents, 01 - Grey cot w/frame, 02 - green SP A-line trees, 01 - dark gray Burnside Bridge with black swirls, 02 - rock stacks, 24 - accessories in gray and brown 02- spiked barricades, 01- cannonball stack, 02 - pails, 01 - pan, 02 - Destroyed wagon wheels, 01 - C-shaped sandbags, 01 - crate of rifles, 02 - rifle stacks, 01 - bedroll, 01 - keg on stand, 01 - drum w/strap. 01 - box with X on top, 01 - mortar frame, 02 pc. Mortar barrel, and 02 - 3-legged stools, 03 - creme character figures, 01 - gloss tin lithograph mansion with roof, both chimneys, and rear support wire, 01 - white HP portico, 01 - US Tin Flag, 01 - Stars and Bars Tin Flag, and 02 - HP flagpoles with bases. ORIGINAL PLAY SET BOX has some fading to printing on box top, a few interior cardboard repairs and reinforcements, but for a 50-60 year old cardboard box, this Box is clean, fairly sturdy, and displays nicely!

This is a 50-60 Year Old set, and it is not perfect, but it is Very Good. ALL FIGURES ARE ACCOUNTED FOR! One Confederate Flag Bearer is complete and 02 have broken flags that have been repaired. Two mold sets of the Confederates are medium/lighter gray and 01 set- dark gray.

This Burnside Bridge has beautiful dark gray color with black marbeling, making it unusual, but difficult to appreciate in the pictures. The Union figures are an unusual, vibrant blue that really stands out with the dark gray Confederates. There are some short bayonets, and I suspect that these figures probably came from the Glen Dale factory exactly as you see them. All of the figures running with rifles at the waist have complete rifles, but no bayonets. After taking the pictures, I included two more Union flag bearers to compensate for the two with the short flagpole. Color matching within this vintage set is very good! ALL FIGURES ARE VINTAGE MARX! On the HP Accessories, one of the rifle stack bases is broken, one of the brown log spikes has several missing spikes, and I have included a later edition gray log spikes to make up for this. One "buffer" that holds horse in the caisson is broken and missing, and one of the handles on the caisson seat is also missing. All in all, this is still a super complete set in original vintage box.
